"Per cent" means "out of 100". To find a percentage of an amount, divide by 100 then multiply.
Finding a percentage of an amount is one of the most useful skills in
maths. The basic method has two steps:
percentage of amount=100percentage×amount
For many common percentages you can use shortcuts. To find 10%, divide
by 10. To find 5%, halve your 10%. To find 1%, divide by 100. Then
combine these building blocks.

Step 1: Find 10% by dividing by 10. 10% of 240=24
Step 2: Find 30% by multiplying 10% by 3. 30%=24×3=72
Step 3: Find 5% by halving 10%. 5%=24÷2=12
Step 4: Add 30% and 5%. 35%=72+12=84
